07 Dodge Ram
The 2007 Dodge Ram is a continuation of the great redesign implemented in the early 2000's. The new trucks have become some of the best choices in what is a very competitive segment. Competitors like the Chevy Silverado, Toyota Tundra and Ford F150 all are great trucks and offer rather similar features. The Ram was the first truck given a major makeover in the 21st century leaving all the others scrambling to compete. Now that the others have caught up the Ram is still able to compete in just about every category, and is a leader in hauling and towing.
Trim packages available are the ST, SLT, and Laramie. ST models are the basic work truck version which come with only the most basic of amenities. Expect an ST model to come with power windows, a basic stereo system, and not too much more. Moving up in refinement is the SLT trim level which offers a lot more for owners to enjoy. Standard features include full power accessories, CD players, optional navigation systems, a great choice of interior fabrics, power adjustable driver seats, and much more. The Laramie represents Dodge's luxury truck and comes with full leather upholstery, upgraded stereo systems, expanded center consoles, and other optional features.
Engines available for the 2007 Dodge Ram include a 3.7 liter V6, a 4.7 liter V8, and 5.7 liter V8 Hemi. Most trucks equipped with the lower trim package and 2 wheel drive come with the smaller V6 engine. That is a great combination for highway driving without much off-roading. Buyers looking for something a little more capable and a 4 wheel drive truck will have to consider a V8 equipped model. Transmissions available include a 4 speed automatic, 5 speed multiple speed automatic, and a 6 speed manual. All of the transmissions offered come with Overdrive. Some upper level trim models will only be offered with an automatic transmission.
Both 2 and 4 wheel drive are offered with the 4 wheel drive requiring disengagement before being driven on pavement again. Three different cab styles are offered as well for the 2007 Dodge Ram including a 2 door regular cab, a 4 door quad cab, and 4 door mega cab. All trucks come with a choice of a 6.3 ft bed or a 8 ft cargo bed except for the Mega cab models which only come with a 6.3 ft bed.
An area where the Ram has always seemed to struggle is fuel economy. The 07' model gets a fairly wide range depending upon how the truck is setup. The larger V8 models will get between 14 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. The most fuel efficient model with a V6 engine gets between 16 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. Like always the Ram is behind just a little bit in fuel consumption compared to similar models from Chevy and Ford.
Though the full size pickup truck class has become even more competitive the Ram is still a worthy competitor. Buyers looking for a truck that can haul and tow large amounts will have to consider one of these models. Compared with the powerful Silverado a comparable Ram can usually haul more weight. Except for the lackluster fuel economy the Ram is a great truck that offers owner enjoyment in many different ways.
